James Lemmons brings a wonderful reminder on grace, not only the unmerited grace we receive as a gift from our loving God, but also the grace we receive from and give to others. We have probably each wished for or received a new beginning, whether it was just in the form of a new job, or as a complete “do-over,” as we used to say when we were children. James asked, “When were the times we have seen or felt grace?” Do we feel the gift of life, the presence of the Holy Spirit, the gift of a fresh new day, or the comfort of family? How about the sound of children or grandchildren, the forgiveness for something we did to offend a friend, or the beauty of the mountains? God gives us grace every day above the amazing gift of His Son, our Savior, just to remind us of His abundant love. James asked, “When do we recognize the grace we have been given?” Sometimes we have to be on the lookout for those gifts we are given daily from God, friends, family, and even strangers, so we can appreciate these acts of grace toward us. When we recognize these beautiful works, let us remind ourselves to do the same for others as an outward sign of the good works we are expected to show as a way of Christian life.
