38th annual Living Nativity, Dec. 12

The reenactment of the Savior’s birth will be presented by Director Gillian Kabat in the Sanctuary for the 38th consecutive year on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6 and 7 p.m. The origins of the Living Nativity were simple and humble and yet has continued to be a fixture at Trinity UMC during the Advent season under nine different pastors.

Sarah Watson Swan and her husband Caleb Swan will reprise the principal roles of Mary and Joseph. The role of the baby Jesus will be the Swan’s infant daughter Naomi who was born in August. And, of course, Sarah grew up playing roles in the play as a young child.

How long can the retired special education teacher keep the pageant going? “I think we’ll make to 40 years. It’s wonderful because everybody is involved with it now. Three years ago when the new pastor (Rev. Khalif Smith) came on board, he gave me a statue of Joseph and Mary, gave me flowers. I was flabbergasted. I didn’t expect that. Now it’s (the Nativity) established as part of the tradition, said Gillian Kabat.”

16th annual Cantata, Dec. 16

You are invited to come seeking right here at Trinity UMC at the 16th annual Christmas Cantata on Sunday, Dec. 16 at either of two worship services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. as directed by Carol Bumgarner. Your Chancel and HeartStrings choirs started preparing in October with their goal to bring God’s joyous message to our church family, our personal extended family, neighbors, work acquaintances, and as many seeking folks as possible. Las Vegas professional musicians will again be part of the orchestra.

So what will you be coming to hear? For two years we have sung of joy and peace, two Advent themes. This year you will be asked a question and see if you can find the answer inside you. The question, “Were you there on that first Christmas night?” This year’s cantata is written by Lloyd Larson, a choir master and world-famous writer at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover, Penn.

Songs and readings that tell the magnificent story will be followed by a lively Praise and Worship song time, written by much-loved Christian musical composer, Joel Raney. You just have to come!  Music includes:

A Great Light

Bethlehem

Never Been a Night Like This!

Sing We Now of Christmas

Welcome to Our World

Were You There on That Christmas Night?

Glory to the Newborn King!

Jesus, What A Wonderful Child

Tell It on the Mountain

Trinity’s Chancel Choir, HeartStrings Multigenerational Choir, and a team of professional musicians secured by TUMC youngster (now all grown up) Doug Beasley will share in the delivery of this heartwarming, seasonal worship service. We hope you all will come and take part. And of course, there will always be congregational singing.   So come one, come all! Be uplifted in His message! Sunday, Dec. 16 at 9 and 10:30 a.m.   The Season of Advent is Here, But Christmas is Coming!
